Currently, there are three routes for the program to qualify for supportive funding for heat pumps and solar hot water installations, with the program qualifying for grants for solar power installations if the program is implemented by a one-stop store or community coordinator. If a SEAI-registered energy partner is chosen to provide the service, up to 25 percent of the funding support will be available for solar panel-type retrofits.
One of the first institutions to announce its participation in the government program was the Bank of Ireland PTSB. The minimum interest rate for the support of the program will be 3.55%. In addition to this, the Irish government said that AIB, Bank of Ireland, Avant Money and the seven credit unions of the Irish Credit Union League are expected to join the program in the coming weeks.
Similarly, similar energy subsidy programs have also enjoyed some success in Australia. Across Australia, different state and territory governments have also implemented various programs to encourage citizens to go solar. Since 2015, the Australian government has launched several new energy development strategies, which has quickly made Australia a global leader in deploying new energy sources such as solar and wind power.
Up to now, more than 130 countries and regions around the world have proposed net-zero emission or carbon neutral targets. However, the actual operation of the policy is more on the subsidies for each company, Ireland and Australia's energy subsidy program provides us with another way of thinking and vision.
The results show that household energy upgrading for environmental sustainability can be effectively promoted through cooperation between the government and the private sector, as well as through the involvement of financial institutions. This model of cross-sectoral cooperation not only accelerates the improvement of energy conversion, but also contributes to the realization of broader climate goals.
